Two explosions recorded in the center of Rome that do not leave injured
The Office of the Prosecutor investigates the possibility that some anarchist group is behind the placement of the bomb in front of a post office.
At 9:20 am two explosions have been recorded in the central Roman quarter of Testaccio. The artifact has exploded in a post office on Marmorata Street, next to Aventino Hill, a place visited by tourists every day. Despite the nervousness unleashed, there have been no casualties, and no injuries. The authors of the attacks are not yet known, but the first information from the police, cited by the newspaper La Repubblica, point to some kind of anarchist command. The Rome Prosecutor’s Office is already investigating what happened.
This post office, which has been attacked previously, according to the local press, is one of the largest in Rome and at that time was already fully operational. However, the device was of very low intensity – two packets with flammable liquid and remote control, according to the local newspaper Il Messaggero has published – and some people have not even noticed. «It was a demonstration,» the local police said. The firefighters have a barracks right next to it and have come quickly to quell the small fire originated, which has only affected one of the vehicles parked.
The investigation is now based on the images of all the cameras surrounding the site of the explosion. The tension of the first moment has generated a false alarm of pump in the surroundings of Circo Massimo, a place relatively near to the affected post office. The headquarters of FAO, the UN food agency, is in front of the Circus and relatively close to the scene. The police believe that the device, of absolutely rudimentary construction, was only intended to frighten and not cause injuries.
