The train that connects Europe
The European Parliament promotes a privatization in the railway sector that allows to create a unique network, a great European Metro.
Europe is determined to move into the future between rails. The European Parliament has approved to promote a single railway space for all countries, to remove the barriers that still exist at the borders and to sustain in the future the great European Metro with which its promoters dream. To the technical homogenization of the railroad, the attempt to liberalize the sector in three years, a proposal difficult to fit in a market controlled traditionally by public societies with much social roots.
One of the countries with this mixed model of management, public and private, is Holland, where we travel to see how this great railway network can be in the future. The Dutch consider the train as a national symbol of progress and unity, and the fact of involving it in a reform has opened a debate that divides society.
