Singer George Michael dies at age 53
George Michael, icon of pop music in the 1980s and 1990s, died Sunday at age 53, according to his publicist.
The musician, who launched his career with the Wham! In the 1980s and then continued as a successful soloist, «died peacefully at home,» the publicist reported.
Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
Michael, who was born under the name of Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou in North London, sold more than 100 million albums in a trajectory of almost four decades.
It was reported earlier this month that producer / songwriter Naughty Boy was working with Michael on a new music album.
In a statement, his publicist said: «With great sadness we confirm that our beloved son, brother and friend George died peacefully at home during the Christmas period.»
