Russia, Iran sign cooperation agreement on sale of electric power
On March 28, 2017, Rosatom and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran signed a memorandum of understanding to transport nuclear materials.
On behalf of Russia the memorandum signed General Director of Rosatom State Corporation Alexey Likhachev, from Iran M.J.Zarif. The memorandum was signed in the context of the meeting of the presidents of Russia and Iran, Vladimir Putin and Hasan Rohani.
The document in particular stipulates the creation and maintenance in Russia and Iran of the necessary infrastructure and the receipt of licenses and permits for the transportation of nuclear material (including by the Caspian), in collaboration of the two countries in the sphere of nuclear energy For peaceful purposes.
The memorandum specifically underlines that the parties are attempting to collaborate following the international standards in safe operation of nuclear materials.
