The ‘Jackal’ is sentenced to life in prison for attack in Paris
The Venezuelan, who says he killed 1,500 people with his organization, denies this attack.
The Venezuelan Ilich Ramirez Sánchez, aka Carlos the Jackal, a figure of international terrorism in the 1970s and 1980s, was sentenced to life imprisonment on Tuesday for a deadly bombing committed more than 40 years ago in Paris.
This is the maximum penalty provided by French law and corresponds to the request of the Prosecutor’s Office which considered that «all the elements gathered during the investigation converge towards him».
The «Jackal», who claims to have killed 1,500 people with his own organization, 80 with his own hands, denies any implication in this attack with grenade committed in the heart of Paris that resulted in two deaths and 34 injuries.
Imprisoned in France, since being captured in a French espionage operation in Sudan in 1994, this former activist for the Palestinian cause purges two life sentences for a triple homicide in 1975 in Paris and four attacks in France thirty years ago .
